Go vote. Don’t even think about not going. Don’t throw away your only chance to influence where your country is going. Don’t let those around you be indifferent either. Elections matter. Whoever tells you your vote is meaningless is lying.
Low political participation hurts legitimacy and impedes social reform. Minorities (POC, LGBT+, religious minorities) and young people are particularly hurt by voter apathy, since low turnout favors the sectors with persistent diehard voters. Traditionally the sectors that benefit are conservatives, particularly far-right voters, and older generations.
Vote smart. Vote for a candidate that’s willing to govern for every citizen and not a select few. Vote for a candidate with a clear, solid governance plan. Vote for a qualified candidate.
Be responsible. Don’t vote third party. The choice is between 2 candidates, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. One of them will be president after tomorrow. Any vote for another candidate will only favor Trump, so you might as well be voting for him directly. A vote is a strategic choice and a responsibility granted to adult citizens: don’t waste it on a protest that will fall on deaf ears. A political candidate isn’t flawless or an ideal representation of everything you believe in: the only choice voters have is whose plan out of those available is the closest to your personal belief system.
Finally, please don’t vote for a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, destructive, reprehensible waste of humanity who might not only set your country back decades in social reform and ruin your fellow citizen’s lives, but might in fact tip the global balance straight into a large scale war. The rest of the world will thank you.
